Ocean Safety officials are advising no swimming at all North Shore beaches due to hazardous ocean conditions, including high surf, strong shore breaks and dangerous currents.
A High Surf Warning remains in effect for all north and west-facing shores of Kauai and Niihau through this evening. The warning may be extended or modified as conditions develop. Ocean Safety officials reported that Wednesday’s conditions were ideal for experienced big-wave surfers, but onlookers were asked to heed the warnings.
“We are urging anyone who visits North Shore beaches to stay away from the shoreline as a safety precaution,” warned Ocean Safety Supervisor Kalani Vierra. “Surging waters will sweep over beaches and can easily knock people off their feet and suck them out into the water.”
The warning states that anyone who enters the water in affected areas could face significant injury or death.
