WAIMEA — Waimea High School athletic director Jon Kobayashi said there are no legitimate solicitations being done on behalf of the Waimea High School athletic department at this time.
The message reiterates one from the Department of Education posted on the county’s Facebook page.
“We’re concerned about the elderly people,” Kobayashi said.
Thursday, Kobayashi said the school received several reports of individuals soliciting donations on behalf of the WHS athletic department.
“These were phone calls from residents who were concerned about the questionable nature of the solicitations,” Kobayashi said. “The reports were turned over to the police department.”
The DOE is warning states there may be individuals soliciting donations door-to-door in Hanapepe or elsewhere on the Westside of Kauai on behalf of the WHS football program.
People should beware that these are likely not legitimate solicitations on behalf of the program, the DOE states.
“We don’t send students out to do solicitations,” Kobayashi said. “They do go out for fundraising sales and donors always get some sort of receipt in the form of tickets for their contributions.”
The DOE said if a person is in doubt, they can confirm if it is a legitimate fundraiser by contacting the schools directly.
