Better late than never.
Salvation Army Cadet Helen Reyes and Maj. Mario Reyes accepted a bag of toys from the Kukui Grove Center and a $3,500 check from the United States Marine Corps League from Norberto Garcia to wrap up this year’s Toys for Tots campaign Monday.
“Late blessings are always welcome,” Reyes said. “There is always a need for toys.”
Garcia, who has been involved with the Toys for Tots program for the past 14 years, said the USMC League goal was to surpass last year’s contribution of about $5,000.
The check presented to the Salvation Army brought this year’s contribution to more than $5,500, exceeding the league’s goal.
Earlier in the year, Garcia was joined by a Kauai High School senior who raised $2,100 for the Toys for Tots as a senior project to launch this year’s campaign.
Reyes said The Salvation Army collected 2,487 toys this year and was able to fill almost all of the requests that came in.
