“Goodbye, turkey,” the Ae Kamalii Preschool students chanted in unison Friday morning. “Goodbye. Goodbye.”
Leona Perez, programs coordinator for the Kauai Independent Food Bank, and Breana Poai, KIFB warehouse driver, dropped by the preschool on Kress Street to collect the food donation that built up over the holidays.
Two big cardboard turkeys acted as boxes in the “Feed the Turkey” collection drive, where students and parents would deposit a canned good or nonperishable food item into the turkey.
The preschool food drive resulted in 136 pounds of food collected.
Perez thanked the students for their efforts, noting how the collected food would benefit KIFB programs, some of which, like the Keiki Kafe and the Backpack Program, help students around the island.
