Cody Dotario almost got a birthday present from the Kauai High School girls junior varsity basketball team Tuesday.
Grandpa Ronnie Dotario (happy retirement after a forever run with PS&D Napa Auto & Truck Parts!) said Cody celebrated his special day watching daughter Kayla play in Waimea.
The JV Red Raiders were good. Sage Erickson dropped a bucket to pull within 1 point, 9-10, at the half.
But Kiarra Palacio ended any hopes, exploding for 14 of her game-total 20 points, including two from outside the 3-point arc in the second half, and led Waimea on a 27-4 run.
Erikson topped the Kauai scoring with five points, including a trey of her own.
Coach Bobby Kamakele left coaching duty to Pedro Saligumba so he could support his high school Kaulupono girls, and Janie Okura (Melia had a great varsity game, too!) was the epitome of sportsmanship, helping an injured Red Raider with her belongings at the half.
OK, off to the barn-burner at Kauai High School!
