Arryl Kaneshiro escorted his grandfather, Satoshi “Sugar” Kaneshiro, to the opening of the Go For Broke exhibit Monday.
Satoshi, a veteran of the 442 Regimental Combat Team, said people have called him “Sugar” for so long time, he almost forgot his real name. He was also escorted by his nephew Dalton Matsuyama.
Jane Kashiwabara of the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program said the exhibit is on display at the Kauai Veterans Center through Jan. 30, so she and her husband Soupbone will be volunteering there instead of at the county building.
Mahalo to William “Bill” Arakaki, Randall Francisco, and many others (the Kauai Kookie nishime was really good, said Janice Bond) whose support make this free exhibit possible.
Kudos to Harvey Kinoshita, Susan Honjiyo, and Judi Murakami for spearheading the effort which, according to Ed Kawamura, is a great event for the Kauai Veterans Center. The exhibit is open at 10 a.m. Monday through Saturday.
