LIHUE — The purpose of the event is to be pressure free.
But while learning about the practices that go into keeping and communicating in a loving relationship.
The Love and Respect series will be shown across Kauai in January to help couples achieve just that. Men may be from Mars and women Venus, but that doesn’t mean one’s right and the other is wrong.
“We’re just different,” said Lynn Mira, who has been showing the relationship film on Kauai since 2009 with her husband, Tim, as a way to share the movie’s insight.
The film is created and narrated by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs, who lives in Michigan but has visited Kauai for Mira’s showings before.
He explains how men and women differ, in part, because women seek displays of love, while men seek those of respect, and each doesn’t understand what those displays looks like from the other’s perspective.
Clearing that up can go a long way in how couples interact.
The free shows will be playing weekly at six locations on island for a month. Counseling won’t be a part of the venue, nor will open discussions. It will basically be like a movie theater.
“No journaling, no sharing, so men really enjoy the class,” Mira said. “If you want to wait until the lights go out and sneak in the back, that’s fine. The message is awesome, it’s helped so many relationships.”
Couples don’t have to attend together, in fact, people don’t even need to be in a relationship to come and learn. It is a Christian based format.
While the Miras have been showing the film since 2009, it’s in the month of January they increase showings.
“It’s free outreach to the Kauai island,” Mira said. “It’s kind of exciting we’ve been doing it so long.”
