Gabriel Cataluna got a birthday crown just because he’s 101 years old during the annual veterans Christmas party.
Larry Rivera (where was Charlie Perreira?) got to do some of the entertainment along with Malani Bileyu (he’s a veteran, too) and Joe Olivas was trying to turn the blue Christmas trees green.
Kudos to Norvin Olivas for heading up the kitchen staff and Ray Blouin (didn’t he get honored by the Kauai Visitors Bureau?) and Chef Mark Sasson (soccer season starting in January) for cooking up the special treats for the veterans.
Susan Honjiyo, in the meantime, is looking for volunteers for the Go For Broke exhibit which will run from Jan. 5-30 at the Kauai Veterans Center. She needs helpers (school groups welcome, too!) for setting up, greeting guests, and taking it down. Call 246-1135 for information.
