LIHUE — From farm to table, and for free.
Kauai Fresh Farms is donating more than 100 pounds of lettuce, mixed greens and tomatoes this week in the name of healthy holiday cheer.
On Wednesday, the Kilauea business gave more than 20 pounds of leafs and veggies to the Salvation Army in Lihue.
“It’s not often we get fresh vegetables,” said Maj. Mario Reyes, of the Salvation Army that serves food to about 70 people in need twice a week. “When we get vegetables, it usually comes in a can, which is good, too.”
Kauai Fresh Farms will be donating more greens for the Kauai Veterans Christmas party.
“We try to up it around this time of year to make sure everyone gets healthy food,” said Markeeta Smith, KFF general manager, of their donations.
