Monday morning, Joseph Tateyama was listening to Ron Wiley on KONG radio when he heard his name called out.
He knew what that meant.
“Outstanding,” he said. “Can’t believe it.”
The Kapaa man was the winner of a trip for two to Las Vegas and will be heading there with wife Laura this summer.
The Garden Island newspaper recently teamed up with KONG radio and Kauai Village Shopping Center to offer a trip for two to Las Vegas. Entry forms for the “Black Friday Las Vegas Giveaway” were available in the Holiday Gift Guide in last Thursday’s TGI and last week’s Midweek Kauai. Joseph dropped off his entry at Kauai Village Shopping Center Friday.
“We were hopeful, but didn’t expect it,” Laura said.
KONG announced the winning name at 9:35 a.m. Monday, and that person had 9 minutes and 35 seconds to call in and claim the prize.
Joseph made the call.
Their prize includes airfare between Honolulu and Las Vegas, four or five nights of hotel accommodations and three meals daily.
He and Laura have vacationed in Vegas before and are looking forward to their return. Joseph enjoys blackjack and Laura likes to try the slots.
The prize must be used by August, and since the Tateyamas usually go to Vegas in June, it works out well.
“That’s perfect,” Joseph said.
