NAWILIWILI — There is still ample room for people to join the “C” burners.
Team captains of “C” burners gathered at Bamboo Grill and Sushi in the Anchor Cove Shopping Center to commit to the fight against cancer through the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. The event will be held from 6 p.m. April 25 to 6 a.m. April 26 at the soccer fields next to Hanapepe Stadium.
The Hanapepe Relay event leadership team pulled out the stops, working to replicate the atmosphere of homecoming, down to a bonfire in a 55-gallon metal drum.
The team captain launch marks the start of five months of fundraising efforts. Working on the theme of “A Totally Awesome ’80s Homecoming Celebration — 30 Years of Relay,” Nalani Brun, event and experience lead, worked members through an initiation rite where messages to cancer were written on a paper “C.”
The messages were then dumped into the fire.
“Burn, burn, burn the big C,” team captains chanted.
People interested in forming teams, or who want to contribute to the fundraising, can contact any of the captains, including Brun, Kim Castillo, Bring the People Lead, Greg Enos, Kaleo Fu, Joni Ito, Brenda Jose, Maile Kaauwai, Terri Kaniho, CiCi Lebanon, Kelii Lee, Jordon Ornellas, Melissa Ragasa, Bud Soria, Laurie Tateishi, Allison Toma, Ann Wooten, and ACS staff partner Patti Ornellas.
