People cheered when the brioche bread arrived Thursday during the Starchefs for a Cause fundraiser for the Hawaii Foodbank, Kauai Branch.
Chef Roger Llang of Lava’s on Poipu Beach at the Sheraton Kauai Resort created the Ultimate Grilled Cheese Sandwich, but the crowd wiped out the original batch in short time.
Larry Feinstein and Jim Guerber of Kauai Beer Co. were going crazy with the “Standing Sitting” crowd which filled every corner and spilled onto the outside area. June Cappiello and Stephanie Kaluahine Read both were on hand as was the Hawaii Foodbank’s Michelle Panoke and Wes Perreira.
Chip Bahout took the party to the back room where Chef Roger and his crew were grilling the sandwiches. Chefs Noelani Lei Planas and Antwon Brinson of the St. Regis Princeville had their hands full serving up Nalu Kai, or seared blackened ahi, and the house-made macaroons with white chocolate arare, hibiscus reduction and raspberry powder.
