Ka Uila, a senior softball team comprised of players from Kauai, Oahu and Maui, picked up a gold medal during its participation in the Huntsman World Senior Games in St. George, Utah, Oct. 13-17.
Ka Uila, coached by Ale Lomosad and Kenneth Tamashiro, assistant coach, found the gold medal in the B Division on this trip.
This is the second year Ka Uila earned gold. Last year, Ka Uila also earned the gold medal, but in the C Division.
In addition to the team’s gold medal, Guy Ruiz was inducted into the 2014 Hall of Fame for his accomplishments.
“The Huntsman World Senior Games was founded 28 years ago with the idea of fostering worldwide peace, health, and friendship,” said Lily Tamashiro, team manager. “What great ideals for us to strive for. The games feature 26 different sports categories and also offers health screenings for players and friends.”
Lily said there were five senior softball teams from Kauai, but only Ka Uila advanced.
Ka Uila team members include Ernest Koerte, Ruiz, Stan Buduan, Herbert Honjo, Lily Tamashiro, Peter Rayno, Angel Madrid, Ronald Javier, Joseph DeCosta, Kenneth Tamashiro, Benjamin Pajardo, Karl Forer, Americo Morris, Frank Bukoski, Wayne Hashimoto, and Lomosad.
Dennis Holland is the player from Maui while Tom Young, Jed Hirota, Manny Ramos and Al Apo are from Oahu.
