WAIMEA — The Rotary Club of West Kauai will host an open house for prospective new members Friday at the Wrangler’s restaurant, kicking off a weekend of Westside activities.
“We’re all in this together,” said Aletha Kaohi, director of the West Kauai Visitor Center and host of “Na Mele O Kaumualii” musical event and Flavors of Waimea. “We’re not competing with anyone. We will have our musical event featuring original compositions about King Kaumualii along with chants and hula honoring Kauai’s last king at the Hofgaard Park from noon until 5 p.m.”
Kaohi said people are encouraged to come early, enjoy the weekend specials from Waimea town merchants, discover new treasures, and explore, hence the Flavors of Waimea moniker, returning to Hofgaard Park for an entertaining and education tribute to King Kaumualii where the sound of the conch shell announces the arrival of King Kaumualii and Queen Kehaikaakulou.
Sunday, the weekend comes to a close with the Fall Fest Family Day featuring free admission to the Waimea Canyon Park from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The park will be staged for a day filled with carnival rides for the keiki, water slides, jumper houses, a kickball tournament with free entertainment, free pumpkins for keiki, and food booths.
The Rotary Round Up opens a weekend of family and keiki events on the Westside.
