Kudos to Nathan Banfield of the Kauai Endangered Seabird Recovery Project on coordinating a great release of the Newell Shearwater.
Dan Dennison of the state Department of Land and Natural Resources got to come over and record the event (rain doesn’t do well with equipment), and Ilana Nimz got help from the Kilauea Point Natural History education center with the Laysan Albatross outfit to help explain seabirds.
Shelley Paik of Kauai Island Utility Cooperative was there to record the event, and had some great photos of the green lasers being used to try to deter the endangered birds from its power lines and poles.
OK, time to see what is on and what is not because of Hurricane Ana — Koloa Redskins JPW takes on Hanapepe at 10 a.m. at Vidinha, and Ron Capps is supposed to be at PS&D Napa Auto Parts, Lihue from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sally Cravens said if it’s not raining too hard, she wants to meet him, too.
