LIHUE — A Lihue man will face felony escape charges after trying to run from authorities while at 5th Circuit Court.
Charles Kaneala Lee, 40, was arrested on Oct. 8 for discharge of sureties and contempt of court charges. He was held in police cell block overnight and was brought to court the following afternoon when he attempted to escape from detention.
“While in the court cell block, he ran from deputies and was quickly caught by them outside the court building,” said Toni Schwartz, spokeswoman for the state Department of Public Safety.
Lee was arranged on the additional felony charge of second-degree escape on Thursday. He was given a court date of Jan. 20, 2015.
Chief Judge Randal Valenciano ordered Lee held on $150,000 bail.
