HONOLULU — The FBI Honolulu office announced Wednesday a joint effort continues to locate a 9-year-old boy who disappeared from the Seattle area in September.
Investigators believe the boy, Billy Hanson, may be traveling somewhere on the Pacific Ocean with 46-year-old Jeffrey Ford Hanson, on a 1976 White Cooper sailboat named the Draco.
The location or direction of the boat is not known but could be heading toward Mexico or islands in the South Pacific.
Nautical experts from the U.S. Coast Guard informed the Seattle FBI office that based on the boat and Mr. Hanson’s sailing abilities, it is possible for him to have sailed a great distance in the Pacific, including the Hawaiian Islands. There is no specific information that he has currently made it to any specific island in the Pacific.
The Honolulu FBI has extended this outreach of the search area to include American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and all sovereign nations of the Pacific.
A federal arrest warrant with a charge of international parental kidnapping was issued for Hanson Sept. 12.
Investigators request that the public report any possible sightings or information on the whereabouts of Billy, Hanson, and/or the sailboat by calling 1-800-CALL-FBI.
