LIHUE – Matson Navigation recently donated $9,500 to the 2014 Kauai United Way annual campaign through Kam Chun, representing the Matson Foundation.
Mark Stein, KUW Campaign co-chair accepted the contribution. He noted the award is above and beyond the personal payroll deduction contributions made by Matson’s Kauai employees.
“Matson has demonstrated that it is determined to be a good corporate citizen,” said Scott Giarman, Kauai United Way executive director.
The annual United Way campaign is in full swing.
“The Kauai United Way theme is ‘7 in 7,’” Stein said. “We are trying to raise a record $700,000 to celebrate Kauai United Way’s seventh decade of serving the Kauai community. The devotion of the Matson management and employees certainly helps and we are most grateful.”
Money raised in the campaign helps thousands of Kauai people through social service work of 29 participating agencies.
Payroll deduction enables anyone to make a powerful difference to benefit those in need on the island, Giarman said.
