PUHI — Waimea High School volleyball swept its series against Island School in three sets on Friday at the Island School gym.
The Menehune picked up wins in the Junior Varsity series, 2-1, dropping its final set, 24-26, to the Voyagers after taking 25-3 and 25-17 wins.
The Waimea varsity girls rolled to victory in three sets, 25-4, 25-13, 25-15.
“This was just a basic match for us,” Waimea coach Chad Delanoza said. “We’re going back to the fundamentals. In doing so, we cut down on some of our unforced errors and that always helps.”
Island School was still tending to its short list.
“We’re still nursing our injuries and illnesses,” Island School coach Brad Sato said. “It’s good we have a bye week coming up because we need the rest. It came at the right time, and I hope we can use the week to heal.”
Delanoza said his girls will be working.
“We’ll continue to work on our game,” Delanoza said. “We still have a lot to do.”
Waimea next meets Kapaa on Oct. 7 at the Bernice Hundley Gym, while Island School prepares to host Kauai.
The JV games start at 5 p.m. with the varsity games serving up no earlier than 6:30 p.m.
