HANAPEPE — Raffy Perono, playing defense for the Kapaa Eagles Junior Midgets, recovered a fumble in the final two minutes to preserve a 20-12 victory over the Colts JM Sunday at Hanapepe Stadium.
It was one of five games hosted by the Kauai Pop Warner Football League in the second week of its tackle football season.
The Hanapepe Colts JM found the scoreboard early in the second period when Naikoa Simao tapped paydirt for the first of his two touchdowns on a 3-yard charge with 8:18 showing in the half. But the Eagles forced a tie at the break when Jai Alapai broke out for a 31-yard score for a 6-6 deadlock at the break.
Kapaa broke the stalemate with 1:37 showing in the third period when Keawe Alapai-Pimental found the end zone on a 5-yard charge, the PAT failing for the 12-6 go-ahead.
Kapaa Eagles Mitey Mites vs. Koloa Redskins
The Eagles scored two touchdowns in the opening period, including a 77-yard breakout by Nakoa Peragine and a 21-yard run by Aukai Emayo en route to a 26-0 shutout over the Koloa Redskins Mitey Mite.
Kapaa scored in the second quarter when Kian Rapozo found the end zone, capping a 32-yard run, and Nakoa Kimi wrapped up the win in the final 5:02 with a 2-yard charge.
Colts vs. Patriots
Hanapepe Colts’ Makoa Vanaman posted scoring runs of 30 yards, 13 yards, 37 yards, 46 yards and 90 yards to lead the Colts to a 36-16 win over the Lihue Patriots, Vanaman’s 90-yard score triggering the running clock midway through the third quarter.
Nainoa Ragragola finished with three point-after boots to grace Vanaman’s scores.
Facing a 16-0 deficit, the Patriots got on the scoreboard with 13 ticks peeled off the second quarter when Lanakila Lovell-Obatake tapped paydirt at the end of a 37-yard run, Tryten Pongasi doing the point-after boot for the 16-8 bulge.
Redskins vs. Eagles JPW
The Redskins redeemed the Mitey Mites’ loss when Kahanu Davis scored two touchdowns, a 49-yard run in the first quarter and a 3-yard run in the second quarter, to lead the Koloa Junior Peewee to a 29-0 shutout over the Eagles JPW.
Hanapepe Colts Mitey Mites vs. Kekaha Titans
Wesley Santiago broke a 6-6 halftime deadlock with an 83-yard touchdown run in the final 5:30 to give the Hanapepe Colts Mitey Mites a 12-6 edge over the Kekaha Titans.
Gabe Bustillos put the Colts on the board in the second quarter with a 6-yard scoring run.
The Titans answered when Johnny Pimental broke out for a 28-yard touchdown to force a 6-6 halftime deadlock.
