County officials announced that its free biannual household hazardous waste collection for residents only is scheduled next week.
Among the items that will be accepted include automotive products, lead-acid batteries, lawn and garden products, oil-based paints, thinners and stains, fluorescent lights, batteries and more.
The collection will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the following locations:
– Hanalei refuse transfer station, 5-3751 Kuhio Highway – Saturday, Sept. 27
– Kapaa Baseyard, 4900 Kahau Road – Saturday, Sept. 27
– Hanapepe refuse transfer station, 4380 Lele Road – Sunday, Sept. 28
– Lihue refuse transfer station, 3450 Ahukini Road – Sunday, Sept. 28
To accommodate the HHW collection, the green waste service at the Hanalei transfer station will be closed on Saturday, Sept. 27.
No commercial or farm waste will be accepted.
Latex paint will not be accepted as well, since it is not considered household hazardous waste.
