A crowd estimated at 150 people attended “The Extreme Couponing” event sponsored by The Garden Island newspaper on Wednesday at the War Memorial Convention Hall.
The program was led by Charity Hauke, couponing veteran, and Maryann Collier, star of the TV show “Extreme Couponing.” They shared secrets and experiences of how they save families hundred of dollars a month on shopping needs.
It’s exciting to get deep savings and sometimes even free items, they said. Be vigilant, follow the plan, and you will save money, they added.
One example they gave was of a family of five that spends $1,000 per month shopping for the household. After employing Hauke’s and Collier’s strategies, they saved $650 per month.
Strategies shared with the audience served as a blueprint that had the crowd furiously writing notes.
“Education is knowledge and knowledge saves money,” said one person.
Attendees were also encouraged to sign up if they wanted become professional couponing instructors and hold similar seminars.
