Deadline to register for the third annual Wahine O Ke Kai Fishing Tournament is 5 p.m. Friday, followed by a mandatory captains meeting at 5:30 p.m. at the Kapaa Small Boat Harbor.

“We invite all trollers to participate in this event which brings the community together to foster the spirit of good fellowship and unity among the fisherwomen of Kauai,” said Jolene Spence, sea captain and tournament coordinator. “There must be at least one wahine on board, and the wahine must reel in fish to qualify.”
Tournament fishing starts with a 6 a.m. shotgun start and ends at 3 p.m. Saturday. The weigh-in station opens at 6 a.m. and closes at 4 p.m. with the awards being announced Sunday during the potluck luncheon from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Kapaa Small Boat Harbor.
Boats can leave from the Kapaa Small Boat Harbor, Nawiliwili and Anini. Fish must be weighed in at the Kapaa Small Boat Harbor by the 4 p.m. deadline.
Anglers will by vying for the largest qualifying fish, marlin, yellow fin tuna, ono, mahi mahi and others. Minimum weights are 15 pounds for marlin, 15 pounds for ko shibi and yellow fin, five pounds for ono, five pounds for mahi mahi, and five pounds for others.
Registration is $100 per boat with at least one member of the Garden Island Trollers Club, or $125 per boat for nonmembers. A late registration fee of $25 will be assessed for applications received after 5 p.m. Friday.
