Maryann Collier, a mother of five from Washington state, says she decided to try couponing after her husband was laid off the same day they purchased a new house.
“I became so good that I was feeding our family of seven for $25 a week,” she wrote in an email. “I started my journey in 2008 and have been couponing ever since.”
Those wanting to learn Collier’s secrets are encouraged to attend an Extreme Couponing event beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall in Lihue.
Collier, who appeared on TLC’s “Extreme Couponing” in 2012 and earned the rank of having the highest savings of the season, runs Coupon Savvy in Cowlitz County, Washington.
“My goal as a couponer is not only to save big for my family but is to donate to local food banks as a family, we have a goal to donate $30,000 a year!” she wrote. “I have an overstock valued at over $25,000 and I am known for my amazing school supply stockpile … I send each kid back to school for less than $5.”
The event offers an opportunity to learn secrets professionals use to slash their monthly grocery bills by hundreds of dollars, and an effortless weekly method that eliminates all the busy work and brain gymnastics from couponing.
All you’ll need is Sunday newspaper coupons and internet access. The free event is hosted by The Garden Island.
The event will include door prizes and giveaways, including grocery gift cards. Seating is limited and those planning to attend must register at www.hawaiismartshopper.com.
