“It’s always nice to have a job when you’re in college,” the Waimea resident said. “I’m trying to get a job with Ross while I attend school at the Kauai Community College.”
A crowd of more than 100 people stood in a line Saturday to apply for about 60 jobs at Ross Dress for Less, which is scheduled to open in October, and other stores at Kukui Grove Center. Times Supermarket, Macy’s and Jamba Juice were among those looking for employees to fill full- and part-time posts.
Kalapaki Joe’s, another tenant scheduled to open this fall, also manned a table.
“We don’t really know how many positions we’ll be needing for the Kukui Grove store,” said Erika Valente. “But with our three other locations, we’re constantly looking for new faces.”
Stacie Chiba-Miguel, Kukui Grove real estate manager, said they’ve been getting between 30 to 40 phone calls a day from people looking for work.
Ron Nelson, Macy’s human resource manager, said they are looking for 10 full-time and part-time positions, in addition to holiday help.
“Our trucks are coming in for the holiday season so we need to fill at least two or three support positions for the holidays,” Nelson said. “‘Tis the season.”
Kelly Machado of Jamba Juice said they have several positions to fill, including an assistant general manager.
“We just got a new manager from Honolulu and he wants to hire more people,” Machado said.
