The team of Mari Nishiura of Mililani, Oahu and Shawn Lu of Honolulu fired a 69 on Sunday to capture the 2014 Hawaii State Junior Golf Association Mixed Team Championship at the Poipu Bay Golf Course.
The Nishiura/Lu duo was tied with the pair of Malia Nam of Kailua, Oahu and Zackary Kaneshiro of Aiea, Oahu at 68 following the first round which was played on Saturday.
On the final round, Nishiura/Lu carded a 69 compared to the Nam/Kaneshiro 70 to take the tournament by a stroke with a combined 137 (68-69).
The HSJGA Mixed Team Championship consists of two-person teams of one boy and one girl from the 13-18 age division.
Keegan Loo of Lihue, playing for Punahou School during the school year, teamed with Zoey Akagi-Bustin of Wahiawa, Oahu to end tied for eighth place at 149 (70-79) with the team of Jasmine Cabajar and Justin Arcano, both from Wailuku, Maui (74-75-149).
Naea Oda, the strong golfer for Kapaa High School, paired with fellow golfer Bryden Salvador of Kilauea to finish in a tie for 10th place, two strokes behind Loo at 151 (75-76).
