Darren Galas, 41, of Kalaheo, was in 5th Circuit Court on Tuesday for a hearing to continue his October trial date. He is indicted for the second-degree murder of his estranged wife Sandra Galas in 2006.
Judge Kathleen Watanabe agreed to continue the trial date to allow the defense to prepare and to accommodate trial calendars. Galas has been free on conditional release with $300,000 bail since a Nov. 13, 2012, hearing.
The trial date was set for Dec. 15, however, the date could change again pending the outcome of future a pre-trial conference.
Sandra Galas, 27, was found dead in her car, parked in the garage of her Eleele home on Jan. 25, 2006. An autopsy determined she had been strangled and suffered blunt force trauma to the head.
Galas has since remarried as the case went unsolved for several years. After an investigation by the Ke Ahi Pioole county cold case unit, Galas was indicted on the second-degree murder charge and his initial April 2013 trial date was set during the arraignment hearing on Oct. 31, 2012.
