Recycling proposal will prove costly for many
Having waste diversion based upon economic incentives as the County Council is suggesting may well keep some waste out of the landfill. However, as many other communities have discovered, the economic incentive also results more trash being dumped roadside in rural areas. Then, the problem becomes one for the victimized landowners as well as the county and state for road and park maintenance. Additionally, the economic incentive will penalize larger families and those who maintain their yards.

Native species must be protected
Instead of feral cats, what if we were talking about feral mongoose? Would we still be talking about catch, neuter and release? I don’t think so. Protecting native species is most important.

Bill will force folks to dump trash roadside
Soon Kauai residents will be facing a new bill called Bill 2551 “pay as you throw.” This bill is to help keep recyclable trash out of the Kekaha dump site. People will end up dumping trash all over Kauai along the highway, roads, anywhere they can think of and we’ll be known as the rubbish dump island. Because no one will be willing to pay to dump their trash, green waste, metal, etc. at the landfill.
We talk of feral cats, rats, mice, etc. When this bill passes, we will have double the trouble, flies and bacteria.
We already have people dumping their household trash and whatever else into the parks and public recreation area trash cans. People, let’s rethink on these old boys that are in office and get them out and vote for some newer people.
