LIHUE — What was thought to be a separate landslide earlier this week near Mount Waialeale wasn’t.
The Department of Department of Land and Natural Resources’s Division of Forestry and Wildlife said Wednesday that a landslide believed to be the second one near Kauai’s summit in as many months turned out to be the same landslide that happened in July.
“This is the same landslide that was previously reported to us,” DLNR spokeswoman Deborah Ward wrote in an email after crews conducted a fly over of the area Tuesday.
The slide, which has been visible over the last couple of days due to clear conditions, occurred on the northeast-facing slope below Pohakupele Ridge, just north of Mount Waialeale, in the Lihue-Koloa Forest Reserve.
