A landslide was reported Monday near Mount Waialeale, according to officials.
Deborah Ward, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Land and Natural Resources, wrote in an email that the department’s Division of Forestry and Wildlife “believes this does appear to be a second landslide,” not far from one that occurred in early July.
“Tomorrow we will send a forestry manager up in a chopper to take a look and photograph the slide area,” she wrote. “This area also apparently feeds into the Wailua River so there will probably be brown water for a few days.”
Local resident Dale Rosenfeld took a photo of the slide and submitted it to The Garden Island. She said it was not visible from her home in Wailua Homesteads before Monday morning.
In July, a landslide occurred on the northeast-facing slope below Pohakupele ridge, just north of Mount Waialeale, in the Lihue-Koloa Forest Reserve, according to Ward.
At that time, the state Department of Health issued a Brown Water Advisory for Wailua River and Bay.
DOH spokeswoman Janice Okubo said Monday there was no advisory as of Monday related to recent landslide.
