Garden Island Canoe Racing Association announced the cancellation of the Na Pali Challenge scheduled for Saturday.
“The Garden Island Canoe Racing Association has made the difficult decision to cancel Na Pali Challenge due to the two impending hurricanes, Iselle and Julio, which are scheduled to start impacting Kauai, Friday,” Dana Miyake, Na Pali Challenge race director, wrote in an email. “The safety of our paddlers and escort is of utmost importance to us.”
Miyake said GICRA is aware there are competitors and teams already on Kauai and will try to host alternative events such as a paddling clinic, iron race or other events. Details on the alternative events will follow based on the impact of the hurricanes and tropical cyclones.
