Bryden Salvador of Kilauea roared back to fire an even par, 72, on Sunday, but finished fourth in the boys 15-18 flight at the 2014 Hawaii State Junior Golf Association JTS – All Ages tournament on Maui.
The tournament was played at the Kapalua Golf Course – Bay Course with the boys 15-18 playing a par 72, 6,600 yards.
Salvador’s Sunday performance was the second best of the flight, bested only by Justin Ngan of Wailuku, Maui who went on to card an overall 145 (75-70) to claim the division at one-over par.
Salvador fired an opening day 79, seven-over par, to tie with Tyler Munetake and Justin Jay Arcano, both of Wailuku, on the opening round, Saturday. But Salvador rose above both Maui golfers on the final round to finish in fourth, six strokes over the pace, at 151 (79-72). Munetake closed a stroke back at fifth (79-73-152) and Arcano slipped to ninth (79-80-159).
Jamie Amimoto of Lihue, the second of two golfers in the tournament from Kauai, finished seventh after finishing with an 80 on the final round.
Amimoto, a strong golfer with the Kauai Interscholastic Federation program, opened strong at one-over, 73, Saturday to finish in seventh at 153 (73-80).
Remington Hirano (75-74-149) of Honolulu and Noah Miller of Kahului, Maui (76-73-149) finished tied for second in the flight.
The next HSJGA tournament will tee off with the Mixed Team Championship, Aug. 16 – 17 at the Poipu Bay Golf Course on Kauai.
