LIHUE — A California visitor was rescued after apparently injuring his head at Queen’s Bath in Princeville late Monday morning.
According to Kauai Police Department, a 51-year-old man reportedly jumped off a 15-foot cliff into the water below the popular but hazardous area, known for unpredictable waves and strong currents.
According to Dispatch reports, the man struck the side of the cliff during his jump about 11:15 a.m., and was initially believed to be unconscious.
Bystanders at the scene brought the man to shore, while others hiked up the trail and called for help, according to county spokeswoman Sarah Blane.
The victim was conscious and breathing when firefighters reached him a short time later.
Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 airlifted the victim to Princeville Airport.
Awaiting medics from American Medical Response transported the man to Wilcox Memorial Hospital. His condition was unavailable at press time Monday.
