Stories will help voters make decisions
Kudos to The Garden Island news for responsible reporting! Most notably, two stories regarding the current councilmembers: “Flooded with feedback,” July 31, explaining councilmember dismay at such strong negative response to huge tax hikes; and a story from a couple of months ago about how often they make decisions in secret and how difficult it is to get information about what goes on in a plethora of those closed meetings. Good job, TGI news! Exposure of what goes on makes voting decisions very easy.

Easy decision coming up on election
Thanks to The Garden Island news for Saturday, Aug. 2 front page story “Tax relief ahead.” Gary Hooser is now scrambling any way he can to keep his job. He’s now trying to partner up with Mel Rapozo and Ross Kagawa, the only two out of seven who voted for no tax increases. He says, “It’s not about blame — it’s about fixing it. All seven councilmembers, the mayor and the tax office all share responsibility.”
Mr. Hooser, you and the four other councilmembers, you should have done like Mel and Ross and taken more time to think about what you voted for and the impact it has taken on property owners. Now you make it easy for us to vote today and it’s going to be an easy decision — five new council members and two incumbents.

Illegal immigrants coming to Hawaii not children
Hawaii is full of immigrants and it’s great! We are one of the most diverse states in the U.S. and enjoy a very low violent crime rate. However, a disturbing news story has been brought to my attention. Some of the illegal migrants are being sent to Hawaii at the taxpayers’ expense. They claim that this program is just for minors but that has been proven to be a fallacy.
Many of these “youths” are from Third World countries with gang affiliations. The media spins youth to be children under 10 but in reality it’s anyone under 18.
We don’t need MS-13 gang members on Kauai, not to mention the hundreds of other gangs that have already crossed the border.
On top of that, it’s already hard enough to find a job without this new, outside competition, nor do we need them sucking up benefits that are for the citizens of Hawaii. Former representative Charles Djou feels the same. Is this what you want for our state?
They’ll tell you it’s just kids, but that’s false. This is documented in hundreds of mainstream articles. The fact is, the majority of those crossing the border illegally are not children.
Not only does this hurt the average Joe, it affects the good folks that have gone through the process and migrated legally.
Please do some research and realize that this is going to damage our community here in Hawaii. Don’t get me started on the diseases being brought in. Ebola anyone?
