LIHUE – Contractors working on the new Hokulei Village shopping center reopened Nuhou Street to through traffic between Kaumualii Highway and Kaneka Street as of today.
The road had been closed since June 9 to facilitate construction of a new roundabout.
Construction is ongoing, and the intersection of Nuhou Street and Kaneka Street has a three-way stop, i.e., traffic in all directions will have to stop at the intersection before proceeding.
“Through traffic has been restored, however, because of construction that will be ongoing for several more months, the public is encouraged to use other routes whenever possible,” County Engineer Larry Dill said.
From Monday through Wednesday the area will be particularly congested in the morning and afternoon when Chiefess Kamakahelei opens for the school year. Other than school traffic, the public is asked to avoid the area during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times.
