LIHUE — The Department of Water (DOW) has cancelled the Boil Water Advisory for the entire Lihue and Hanamaulu area effective at noon today.
Laboratory results on the samples collected Thursday morning indicate the water is safe and free from microbial contamination, according to a county news release. All customers in the effected areas now have normal water service that may be used for all water purposes.
The DOW stated that immediate measures are underway to prevent future incidents. This includes continued close monitoring of water quality in all water systems to ensure safe and affordable drinking water is available to all residents.
The boil water advisory issued Thursday served as a precautionary measure after brown water was reported in various areas of Lihue and Hanamulu. DOW and contractors were working on waterline improvements to Hoomana Road Wednesday night and when the line was turned back a disturbance created a brown water and air mixture that was released into the neighboring service areas.
