KOKEE – Police identified the hiker who died after falling from the Waimea Canyon Trail in Kokee Tuesday afternoon as Devin Goetsch, 25, of Honolulu.
The victim was hiking the trail with two friends about 1 p.m. when he apparently lost his footing and slipped down the steep cliff, according to police.
Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 responded to the call and located the man’s body about 2:30 p.m., roughly 700 feet below the point where he slipped. His body was flown to Waimea Canyon Park where medics then transported him to Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital.
An autopsy is pending. However, police do not suspect foul play.
Police originally identified Goetsch as a resident of Maui, but corrected the information in a press release on Wednesday.
