The Kauai Junior Lifeguards wrapped up its summer program with the island finals Saturday at the Hanalei Pier.
Nearly 80 participants from four sites scrambled for bragging rights of six different sporting events developed around the curriculum of the junior lifeguard program, including the 1,000 meter run, beach flags, paddlboard relay and a 250 meter swim, run, swim, run.
Competitors are practicing for the state finals on Aug. 2 at Kalapaki Beach.
The Kauai Junior Lifeguards are the10-time defending state champions.
