Joyce Carlson has been visiting Kauai for 30 years from San Diego. She was among the huge crowd Sunday during the 17th annual Kmart Shoreline Fishing tournament after the weeklong World Conference of Hula.
Joyce said she’s among the Mokihana people who have been doing the Super Bowl, Halloween, and even Spam parties which have ended up helping Kauai’s nonprofits.
Kudos to Jarrett Chytka and his Kmart ohana (mahalo to Marilyn Luis for the heads-up) on a great tournament. Dickie Chang had Bruce Smalling working the crowd generated by more than 370 entries (164 keiki) before heading off to the Hoolaulea in Poipu.
JK of the JK Show was also on hand to video the event. Earl Miyamoto got Kurt Kawamoto to join him with the Barbless Hooks program and Katie Nalesere of the state’s DLNR Division of Aquatic Resources got help from everyone in chasing down white ulua and papio for a study being done in Honolulu.
