People on Kauai have the opportunity to view the first of three Supermoons today when the moon is in its full stage.
The moon is forecast to rise at 7:37 p.m., coinciding with the last vestiges of daylight as the sun sets at 7:11 p.m.
A Supermoon, also known as a perigee moon, takes place when the moon enters its full phase on the portion of its orbit when it swings closest to the Earth’s surface — 30,000 miles, states a UPI article from the Bishop Museum website.
Should the weather be uncooperative, three Supermoons are forecast for the summer, the next one taking place on Aug. 10, and the final one on Sept. 9.
