WAIMEA – Christopher Lono Kaiakapu is a new recipient of a Bachelor of Science degree in environmental science with an emphasis in energy and earth resources and a minor in geology from California State University at Chico.
The 2009 Waimea High School graduate is a former pitcher for the Menehune baseball team.
As a student athlete at CSUC, Kaiakapu was a javelin thrower on Chico’s track and field team.
He assisted his teammates in securing the last four of their 11 straight men’s CCAA Track and Field titles. The graduate became involved with the PowerSave Campus program after returning from a semester abroad in Australia during the fall of 2012. In 2013, Chico’s PowerSave Campus represented the state of California in the Campus Conservation nationals, which they won. The program empowers students to be tomorrow’s energy efficiency leaders.
This year they placed first in the nation.
