WAILUA – The Department of Water recently held a dedication to commemorate the completion of the Wailua Houselots Main Replacement – Phase 1.
“The DOW is extremely proud of the recent installation of the new waterlines,” said Dustin Moises, DOW construction project management officer. “It was a sizeable project that provides a higher level of service and water efficiency to customers in Wailua Houselots.”
Approximately 12,500 linear feet of waterline improvements were completed along Eggerking, Lanakila, Hookipa, Kula, Makani, Wailana, Pua O’o, Ulana, Kamokila and Haleilio roads. The project replaced various cast-iron, galvanized-steel and concrete-cylinder pipes that were in some cases nearly 75-years-old. In addition, new valves, service laterals and hydrants were installed, and the affected roads were repaved.
The $4.5 million construction contract was awarded to Goodfellow Bros. Inc. through funding by the state Department of Health Drinking Water State Revolving Fund. In addition, the DOW received a $750,000 Green Project Reserve grant from the DOH based on the anticipated water efficiency that would result from the pipeline replacement.
