Today, Amber Jackson’s family and friends will think of her. Not that they don’t think of her every other day of the year, but July 3 is an anniversary of sorts. Not a good one. It is the date in 2010 her body was found by a hunter in a remote, wooded area of Kealia. An autopsy revealed the injuries leading to her death were from an assault. She was last seen alive June 23.
The case remains unsolved.
Amber Jackson’s friends, family, colleagues and the Amber Jackson Justice Group are making a national appeal to encourage Kauai law enforcement and justice to obtain outside investigative expertise to solve Amber’s and the other cold case murders on Kauai.
“Outside assistance and additional expertise — fresh eyes — are needed to resolve this case. Kauai, known as the tourist destination, ‘the Garden Isle,’ is also known to be a good place to become lost, missing, or to disappear — the search and rescue folks on island know this,” according to a press release. “But do tourists? This tourist’s paradise has a dark secret and a history of murders of innocent women and men.”
Here’s a little about Amber Jackson: She was born and raised in Riverside, Calif., and spent the majority of her life in the San Francisco Bay Area, primarily in Marin County. She was a homeowner and resident of Kauai for 10 years and worked for the Hawaii State Teachers Association. Amber bought and ran a lettuce farm in Hilo, learned the business from scratch. She worked for nonprofit organizations, both in Marin County and in Hawaii. She was dedicated to helping those less fortunate and also was very generous in help to her friends.
A Hawaii State Teachers Association tribute to Amber says: “Her previous work with Legal Aid, Marin (County) Treatment Center, and the Marin Services for Women as well as her love of the outdoors and a sustainable Hawaii illustrate the type of person she was and why she partnered so well with our staff, members, and the community. Amber’s dedication, sense of humor, and kind ways will be missed by all who knew and cared for her.”
Friends and family of the victim recalled Jackson as “a loving, caring and innocent woman, who not only lived and worked on Kauai, but gave back to the community. She was beloved by many, and is missed so much by all of us.”
The Amber Jackson Justice Group was formed by a group of Amber’s closest friends and family in 2010. This group is dedicated to keep Amber’s murder in the public eye, in hopes that someone will come forward with information for the Kauai Police Department or Office of Prosecuting Attorney, that will help solve the case. The AJJG wants to make sure that people know that Amber will not be forgotten. We’ll do our best to be sure that doesn’t happen.
In May, friends and family of Amber Jackson wrote 50 letters requesting authorities bring in outside cold case investigation expertise. We support their request in hopes that the killer of Amber Jackson is brought to justice. We ask anyone with information on this case to alert police.
