Richard Tom
Richard M. D. Tom of Kapaa, Kauai died on May 29, 2014 at the age of 93. He was born on March 28, 1921 and was a retired Officer and Industrial Relations director at Grove Farm Company. He was also a retired Director, Officer, and Manager of the company-sponsored federal credit union.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian, daughter Stephanie Wong of Honolulu, sons Jonathan (Avis) Tom of Kapaa and Dr. Richard Dana (Laurie) Tom of Aiea, Oahu; Brothers Webster (Juliette) Tom of Honolulu and Thomas (Marietta) Tom of Palo Alto, CA. Surviving grandchildren are Richard Kiakona, Lyndsey, Kyler, Hali and Naleah Tom of Kapaa and Zachary and Courtney Tom of Aiea.
Services will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at All Saints Church in Kapaa. Visitation begins at 9:00 a.m. and services to commence at 10:00 a.m. with inurnment to follow in the church columbarium.
Rose Koerte
Rose Pontes Koerte of Kalaheo, Kauai passed away on May 31, 2014 at her home in Kalaheo, Kauai at the age of 87. Born on February 4, 1927 in Kalaheo, Kauai. She was a Retired Housekeeping with the Sheraton Kauai Resort.
Preceded in death by her Husband Otto Koerte
She is survived by her two daughters, Tammie (Gilbert) Medeiros, Andrea Kauamura, 5 Grandchildren, 4 Great Grandchildren, numerous Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and friends.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday June 28, 2014 at Lihue Luthern Church from 10:00 am. Where services will celebrated at 11:30 am Burial to follow at Kauai Veterans Cemetery.

Yukio Higashi
Yukio “York” Higashi of Hanamaulu passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on June 19, 2014 at the age of 87. Born on February 12, 1927 he was a retired truck driver instructor for Lihue Plantation.
Preceded in death by his parents Sakichi and Kiku Higashi; brothers, Masayuki Higashi and Harry Higashi and granddaughter Halee Rivera.
He is survived by his wife, Olinda Higashi; sons, Gordon (Danice) Higashi, Alvin (Deborah) Higashi, Dean (Melanie) Higashi; Blaine Kaneholani, Kenny Meatoga; daughters, Maile (Jonah) Cummings, Yukie (Kevin) De Silva, Anolani (Kelo Rivera) Higashi; brothers, David Higashi, Richard “Kenji” (Misa) Higashi, Sisters Peggy (Leslie) Yaka and Edith Higashi; 25 grandchildren, Bryson, Shantelle, Daryl, Danielle, Jan, Joey, Cherise, Kaplan, Alyssa, Kelii, Landon, Micah, Vaughn, Kelly, Kaleomana, Jonah, Nohelani, Sunshine, Naomi, Jacob, Alton, Joshua, Moana, Dustyn and Hulali. 21 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, July 11, 2014 at Anahola Hawaiian Homes Beach Park. Visitation with family begins at 10 a.m. Services at 10:30 a.m. will be performed by Kahu Ipo Kahaunaele-Ferreira of Ke Akua Mana Church.
Clifford Gonsalves
Clifford Andrew Gonsalves of Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii passed away at home on June 20, 2014, at the age of 76. He was born in Hanamaulu, Kauai on June 17, 1938, and retired as a truck driver with Lihue Sugar Plantation.
Preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Mabel Gonsalves; step mother, Dorothy Gonsalves; brother, Damien Gonsalves.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Eleanor Christine Gonsalves; four daughters, Marie Gonsalves (Joseph Hoapili Jr.), Lesley (Francisco “Bully”) Rabot III, Cliflynn (Shawn) Bukoski, Lesmarlee “Crissy” Gonsalves (Jamerus Panoy); one son, Evan (Kelieann Nuesca) Gonsalves; 11 grandchildren, Tiana (Brandon Wong) Gonsalves, Tiera (Robert Lee) Gonsalves, Justin Rabot, Francisco “Cisco” Rabot IV, Sadie Gonsalves, Cyrus Grammer-Gonsalves, Caleb Gonsalves, Jacob Bukoski, Hailey Rose Gonsalves, Tori Bukoski, Tryten Rabot; 2 great-grandchildren, Briana Gonsalves-Wong, Tiabre Gonsalves-Wong; two brothers, Ralph (Veronica) Gonsalves, Thomas (Evelyn) Gonsalves; one sister, Debra Gonsalves; sister-in-law, Fannie Gonsalves; numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, July 4, 2014, at Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall with visitation from 9:00 a.m. and services celebrated at 11:00 a.m. by Pastor Doug Kazoub of New Hope Lihue. 49er’s or Red, black or gold attire suggested by family.
Kauai Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the Gonsalves family with arrangements.
Eusequio Defuntorum
Eusequio Defuntorum passed away on June 19th 2014 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 81. Born on December 7, 1932 in Pangasinan, Philippines, he was a farm worker with Kilauea Agronomics.
He is survived by his wife, Florencia Defuntorum, sons, Gil (Jennifer) Defuntorum of Kalaheo and Carlos (Marjorie) Defuntorum of Lihue, daughter Evangeline (Ramsy Labasan) Defuntorum of Lihue, sister, Leonida Leones, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kalaheo at 9:00 am. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am, with burial to follow at Lihue Public Cemetery.

Felipa Santos Castillo
Felipa Santos Castillo of Eleele, Kauai, passed away on June 2, 2014 at her home at the age of 94. Born on May 24, 1920 in the Philippines she was a Homemaker.
She is survived, Wilhelmina Castillo, Lillian Santos Caraang, Lani Santos Domingo, 4 Grandchildren and 3 Great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, friends and family.
Friends may visit with the family on Thursday June 26, 2014 at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. and again on Friday June 27, 2014 at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo from 9:00 am. Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am. Burial to follow at the Hanapepe public cemetery.

Janice Szemplenski
Janice Szemplenski of Kapaa passed away in Wilcox Memorial Hospital June 3, 2014, at the age of 61. She was born in California on July 20, 1952, and was a case manager with Mental Health Kokua.
She is survived by her husband, John Szemplenski and numerous friends.
A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, June 29, 2014, at Calvary Chapel in Lihue with services celebrated at 12 p.m.
Kauai Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the Szemplenski family with arrangements.
