NAWILIWILI — With just one more race remaining in the Nawiliwili Yacht Club Junior Invitational Series, Fast Company holds a solid lead following three races.
Fast Company nailed the lead spot with its third straight win Thursday, clearing the finish buoy on an elapsed sail of 57 minutes, 41 seconds, and corrected to 57:46 PHRF.
Bonjolea II, slipped across in second overall at 54:55, corrected to 58:31 PHRF. The second place finish puts Bonjolea II in a fight for the No. 2 berth in overall standings as she dropped to Ozone the week before on a 1:06:49 elapsed sail, and corrected to 1:11:12 PHRF for third place.
During the first race, Fast Company was the winner, but Bonjolea II and Ozone finished in a tie following the PHRF correction, both boats being awarded finishes of 1:15:57 PHRF below Fast Company’s 1:13:22 PHRF.
With a single race remaining this Thursday, Bonjolea II and Ozone are locked in a battle for the No. 2 spot.
OZone finished last Thursday’s outing on a 1:01:03 elapsed sail and corrected 1:01:09 PHRF for third place over the 5.12-mile course that covered two legs in winds of 12 to 15 knots out of the north-northeast.
Other boats in the field included Weatherly, crossing at 1:05:20 elapsed and corrected to 1:05:26 PHRF, and Trinity, an F-28 trimaran, clocked a 1:00:30 elapsed sail and corrected to 1:08:52 PHRF.
Trinity also corrected to 52:41 Club for top honors in that class, putting that class on the line for the final race.
During the first race, Fast Company corrected to 1:11:49 Club for top honors while OZone, correcting to 1:05:20 Club in the second race, topped the class. Trinity’s win on Thursday resulted in a three-way fight for the lead spot in the Club class.
Speedy rounded out the pack on a 1:09:45 elapsed sail and corrected to 1:09:51 PHRF.
The public is invited to watch the final race of the Junior Invitational Series where at least one junior must be onboard for a boat to qualify in the race which has its first flags flying at 5 p.m.
