For those who missed Olivia Gegen at the First Saturday in Kapaa, the eighth-grade student at Island School was playing the violin at the Kauai Community Market at Kauai Community College.
Pat Gegen, Olivia’s dad, said she’s been growing so fast, they need to check out a new instrument. And speaking of Island School, congratulations to all the graduates!
Charlene Steuri (you never know who you run into in the Ace Hardware parking lot) said Stephanie, the new Miss Hawaii, was flying in Saturday to attend the Voyagers’ graduation.
Olena Heu, the television news reporter and anchor, was on hand last week to watch Stephanie get crowned. Olena (her name used to be Rubin) was a Kauai girl, having graduated from Kapaa High School, and went on to become Miss Hawaii in 2004. She was at the pageant in celebration of her 10th anniversary since being crowned. Olena was also on island a few weeks ago as the keynote speaker at the KCC graduation.
