KAPAA — Both the Lightning and Eastside hit clutch shots Thursday night at the Bernice Hundley Gym.
Both Division 4 teams, or students in fourth and fifth grades, took the floor between games featuring Papalina and Hanakila during the Kaulupono Summer Basketball league.
The Eastside Dream Team took an early lead but with less than a minute remaining in regulation, Kaia Davis Caberto forced overtime on a third-effort Lightning put back that tied the match at 10-10.
Eastside sealed the contest 11-10 when Taisha Kamoku dropped the tail end of a charity pair with less than 10 seconds remaining in overtime.
Lilya Cummings led Eastside with nine points and a lot of hustle in the paint.
Tierra Washington topped the Lightning scoring on six points with Davis Caberto added four points.
• Papalina, playing its Division 2, or players in eighth and ninth grades, opened the evening with a 37-31 loss to Hanakila whose players hail primarily from the Hanalei and Kilauea districts.
Daniel Yabes dropped 12 points and Lexton Camat finished with 11 points to lead the Division 2 Hanakila win.
Chris Cromartie finished with a game-high 13 points to lead Papalina and Jaykob Nakaahiki-Young added six points.
• The nightcap, a Division 3 game for sixth and seventh grade students, saw a reversal of the opener as Ryan Banasihan bucketed 14 points to lead Papalina to a 46-16 win over Hanakila who got four points from Chanson Hawelu, including a three ball.
Hero Raza added the second trey and Keawe Cabebe ended with three points.
Following Banasihan, Karter Kester and Christopher Cromartie, who also played up in the Division 2 match, each had eight points.
Trey Taba, who also played up in the Division 2 match, was joined by Nick Herbig with six points apiece.
