‘Bark for Life’

The Kauai Chapter of the American Cancer Society will host its fourth annual Bark for Life Kauai on Saturday, June 7 at Kilohana Plantation. Bark For Life is an American Cancer Society fundraising event that honors the special relationship between dogs and their owners, celebrating canine companions who lovingly care and give hope to their humans. 

The event will begin at Kilohana Plantation lawn area. Registration is at 7 a.m. The non-competitive walk begins at 8 a.m.  From 8:30-9:30 there will be contests, an agility course and other activities, fun for both dogs and humans, and prizes galore. Contests will include funniest photo – bring your funniest dog photo to post on the board, best costume, most appropriate name, most unique color, fastest eater, best trick and pet/owner lookalike.

Everyone is encouraged to participate to do what they can to stop cancer. People participate for various reasons: to honor the unconditional love and care giving qualities of canines, to celebrate cancer survivorship, to honor people and pets lost to cancer, and to fundraise in support of the ACS mission of eliminating cancer though research, education, advocacy and service.

“Canine companions represent unconditional love, joy, security, compassion, and no judgments of human abilities or appearances. Bark For Life is an incredible way to ‘take a bite out of cancer,’” a press release said. 

So those with a dog — leash up — and those without, come join the fun, anyway. Everyone will make new dog and human friends at this fun event.
