LIHUE — Westside Pride’s Ransen Pasion threaded traffic for five yards to score the winning touchdown for the Pride in a 26-20 win over the Kapaa Warriors in overtime Sunday at Vidinha Stadium.
The Pride held a 20-14 lead behind two touchdowns from Lanakila Gushiken-Banquel, but Kapaa came back in the final 51 seconds when Kapaa’s Jai Alapai capped a 21-yard drive with a six-yard charge into the end zone.
Kapaa had an opportunity to go ahead, but the point-after run attempt by Daniel Taimi was stymied short of the end zone to force overtime.
The Pride deadlocked the match 12 seconds into the final period, capping a 64-yard drive when Gushiken-Banquel went to the rightside on a 25-yard run to paydirt. The failed PAT boot deadlocked the match 14-14. Denez Haley put the Pride up 20-14 when he got the nod on a six-yard touchdown push, the PAT failing before Kapaa answered with its touchdown in the final 51 ticks.
There are just two more games remaining in the Intermediate schedule for sixth through eighth graders.
The Kauai Bulldogs meet the Westside Pride at 10 a.m. Sunday.
