LIHUE — More than 300 students from Kauai Community College and 45 students in the distance learning program will march at Kauai Community College 49th commencement ceremony at 6:15 p.m. Friday at Vidinha Stadium.
During the graduation, students will be receiving degrees and certificates from eight courses of study from the community college including Associate in Arts, Associate in Science and Associate in Applied Science.
Twelve students will receive degrees from the University of Hawaii West Oahu, 32 from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and one from the University of Hawaii Hilo.
Lisa Rapozo, who received her associate’s in liberal arts from KCC in December 2013 as a member of the very first Waialeale Project cohort, will be one of the student speakers.
Shyla Ayau, a student with the University of Hawaii West Oahu distance education program, is the second student speaker.
Olena Heu, a magna cum laude graduate of Kapaa High School, will be the keynote speaker.
Heu, who was raised on Kauai by a single mother, is a reporter and anchor at KHON2 News since 2007, starting as a general assignment reporter followed by co-anchoring the Wake Up 2day morning starting in 2009.
